Lou Maxton Obituary

Lou Gene Gandy Maxton, age 84, was born in Franklin County on March 25, 1939, to Gus and Irene Moore Gandy.  She passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Greenhill Villas in Mt. Pleasant.  She was a life-long resident of Mt. Vernon.

Lou Gene was a loving and caring wife, a devoted mother, grandmother of five and great grandmother of seven.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Jerry Maxton, daughter Lela Maxton Fisher, and infant daughter Deborah Maxton.

Lou Gene is survived by her son David Maxton and wife Cindy; five grandchildren Byron Maxton and wife Kristi, Jeni Maxton, Jake Maxton and wife Britney, Megan Fisher Miller and husband Daniel, and Robert Fisher and wife Kimmie; seven great-grandchildren Savanna Maxton, Maci Maxton, Molly Maxton, Cheyenne Miller, Charlie Miller, Tony Fisher, and Chloe Fisher.  She is survived by two sisters Margaret McGee and Sue Hendrix and husband Mack; sister-in-law Margaret Safford; brother-in-law James Maxton and wife Fleda; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

Lou Gene was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School where she met her sweetheart Jerry.  They were married on December 22, 1956, and spent 39 years raising a family and making wonderful memories.  Lou Gene was a wonderful cook and an even better seamstress.  Before her health began to fail, she could always be found supporting her children or grandchildren in their many events or volunteering at First United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon where she was a member.  In earlier years, Lou Gene was employed at First United Methodist Church, Franklin County Tax Office, and Jordan Health.  She was also an honorary member of the Mt. Vernon FFA Chapter.  Lou Gene will be greatly missed by family and friends who were so blessed to be a part of her life.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons and nephews.  Interment will be at the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery next to her husband and two daughters.

The family is forever grateful to Greenhill Villas and to Heart-to-Heart Hospice for their care.  Memorial donations may be made to Heart-to-Heart Hospice, 100 W. Hawkins Pkwy. Suite A, Longview, TX  75605.
