Vickie Gail Slaton, a beloved wife, dedicated mother, and loving granny was unexpectedly reunited with her baby boy on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the age of 53.
Vickie is survived by her husband of 33 years, Steve Slaton; her daughter and son-in-law Lilly & Eric Miller; her grandchildren, Whitley Lou and Elly Mae; her father, Clyde Amos; her mother-in-law Selinda Hassell; as well as her sisters; Clidene and husband Mike Swafford, Marilyn and husband Kenny Logan, and Geri and husband Craig Jones. Sister-in-laws Donna and husband Ken Trantham, and Laura-Ann Counts. As well as many nieces and nephews, and friends. She is preceded by her son, Martin Slaton; her mother, Marlene Amos; and her father-in-law, Martin Ray Slaton.
Vickie was born in Mount Pleasant, Texas on May 27, 1970, to Marlene and Clyde Amos. On June 1st, 1990, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Steve Slaton. They welcomed their first child, Lilly, in 1996. Shortly after, in 2000, their son Martin was born. She graduated from North Texas Community College with her license as a Registered Nurse. She was a dedicated employee of Titus Regional Medical Center where she worked for 37 years. Many of those years were spent in the Pediatric Clinic as well as the Emergency Room.
Vickie had a servant's heart that was shown through her actions in the community. She was an active member of the Mount Vernon Key Club for many years where she led several wonderful community events, most recently where she created Lantern Fest, something very special to her. She would spend summers in Missouri, volunteering as a nurse at Camp Kanakuk, which allowed for her to combine her love of nursing and the outdoors. Her love of the Lord was shown through her membership to the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon. There she participated in the choir as well as volunteered her time as the nurse. When her schedule slowed down you would find her at the beach, fishing in Arkansas, watching the Dallas Cowboys, or visiting the Sonic Drive-Thru for her Diet Dr. Pepper.
Vickie's family was the most important to her. She cherished being a wife. She adored being a mother to her two children and a doting granny to her two granddaughters. There was a talent she had that made everyone feel seen and important. She never hesitated in sharing an "I love you" followed by a hug. A nurturing soul that she freely shared with all.
Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Fred Randles officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Southwest Transplant Alliance, an organization close to the heart of the Slaton family.
