Ronald Jim Gentle of DeKalb, Texas passed away on September 7, 2026, which was his 83rd birthday with family by his side. He was born in Rhea Mills, Texas September 7, 1946, to Naomi (Russell) and JR Gentle, Sr. Ronald left school after the 8th grade to work to support his mother and siblings. Throughout the years he worked as a plasterer and in construction management, owning his own plastering company for many years which took him all around Texas. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle who enjoyed being around his family.
Ronald was instrumental in setting up the Gentle Family Reunion which has been held annually since 2009. He was always surrounded by family members who waited for a hug from Ronald, and he was ready to call you Lucy or George even if he did remember your name. He was quick to offer you food, a drink, and ice cream whenever you visited – and always offering ‘want a bite’ of whatever he may be eating. He was a hard-working man his entire life and often said he should have placed a bet on how long he would live because he long outlived what he thought. The love he had for his family will remain with them forever.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rose (Lunsford) Gentle; children Patrice Dobbs, Thais Gentle (Keith Hyde), Johnny (Sharon) Gentle, Lisa Palicio, Renee Lawley, Ryan (Angela) Lawley and Robin (Shawn) Cowgill, 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, his dog Isabelle as well as siblings Patrica (Eddie) Bell, David (Janet) Gentle, Sandy Jackson, Connie Koster and Barbara Gentle. He is also survived by extended family members and friends who will fondly remember his life and legacy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Naomi and JR Gentle, daughter Samatha Gentle, grandson William Gentle, son-in-law Gary Dobbs, brothers Glenn, Paul and JR(Bubba) Gentle; sisters Carmen (Sissy) Gentle and Maxine Sellers, Mother-in-law Alpha Lunsford and in-laws Ronnie and Peggy Jane Lunsford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to offset medical and funeral expenses.
