Obituary

Peggy Jean Weatherly, age 67, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026, in Tyler, Texas. She was born on October 10, 1958, in Dallas, Texas to Bobby Joe and Belva (Fletcher) Weatherly, the third of four children.

Peggy passionately guided her family to do the right thing and often cited The Golden Rule- insisting that everyone treat each other in a way they would hope to be treated.

She was also known for her love of crafting, often gifting friends and loved ones with thoughtful handmade creations.

Laughter was one of Peggy’s favorite languages. She had the uncanny ability to find the funny side of even the most ordinary moments. She reminded us that joy is worth holding onto, no matter what life throws our way.

She would encourage us to extend love and respect to one another and make a positive difference in the world.

Peggy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Mount Vernon, Texas and a member of Women of the Word Bible Study Class. She found minutes and sometimes hours of peace as she turned to the Word of God. Her love for studying His Word and sharing that truth with her friends and family was rooted in the fundamental doctrine of faith.

Peggy’s life radiated the love of God. Her faith wasn’t just something that she spoke about, it was something that she lived every single day. Whether it was through a gentle word of encouragement, a helping hand, or a quiet prayer, Peggy reflected God’s love in all she did. She trusted God’s promises.

She was a graduate of R.L Turner High School in Carrollton, Texas. After graduation, she attended Springfield Baptist College in Springfield, Missouri.

Her professional career included employment at Braniff Airline, Nortel Network Corp., and IBM. At the time of her death, she was the Security Program Manager at Red Hat, LLC where she helped manage two security programs and was praised as a remarkable woman.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Belva and Bobby Joe Weatherly, and brother, Raymond Joe Weatherly. She is survived by her son Philip Weatherly, brothers, Terry Weatherly and wife Lois, Eric Weatherly and wife Lynne; two granddaughters, Jessie and Jordan Weatherly; aunt, Mary Mortensen as well and other aunts, uncles; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Texas for the Visitation beginning at 1:00 pm.  A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Pepper Puryear officiating. Peggy will be laid to rest at Stouts Creek Cemetery in Saltillo, Texas.

We can take comfort in knowing Peggy now rests in the presence of the Lord she loved so dearly, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant."
