Peggy Sue (Thomas) Brittle passed away on Friday August 22, 2025, at her home in Scroggins, Texas, she was 62 years old.
Peggy was born on November 18, 1962, in The Dalles, Oregon to William Daniel and Margaret Gwendolyn (Greiner) Thomas. She was the seventh of the family's eight children and most of her early years were spent on the family's farm. Peggy grew up helping her father change irrigation pipes, feeding their cattle, and participating in 4H. Her time on the farm was a lesson in hard work and yet it was also the place where her imagination took root. She loved to tell stories, play games, and create art.
One night, while "cruising the gut" – a pastime of teenagers driving around town – she met Lance Eugene Brittle, who would become the love of her life. They shared a dream of a life filled with adventure and on August 28, 1982, they were married. Peggy moved to Klamath Falls to be with Lance as he finished school at The Oregon Institute of Technology, and when he graduated the young couple moved to Medford. In their first years together, their ingenuity, resolve, and frugality were tested, and through the hard times their love guided them.
Lance took another job back in The Dalles, and it was there that their first child, Margaret (Maggie) Yvonne, was born in 1986. Just thirteen months later their second child, Amie Sue Marie, was born in 1988. With two daughters, Lance and Peggy, made the life-altering decision to move to Torrance, CA, where Lance was offered a job. With opportunity for career growth, the family began a series of relocations that began with a move to Kansas City, MO, where their third child, Seth William, was born in 1989. Over time, Peggy and her family moved again to Iowa, back to California and to New Jersey in 1999 where the family spent 16 years.
Throughout her journey, Peggy supported and encouraged her children with love, creativity, and structure. She helped with nearly every project, volunteered at Scouting events, and even worked as a Playground Supervisor. As with many young families, there was never a dull moment: The family traveled often, from weekend road trips to lavish international work trips. There were sporting events, barbeques, and campfires where memories were made. Being a mother was Peggy's greatest joy.
In 2016, Peggy and Lance moved from New Jersey to Texas, where, after a lifetime of moving, they found a place where they truly felt at home. It was there that they fulfilled their lifelong dream of owning a cabin on a lake. In her final years of life Peggy hosted family and friends, always filled with joy watching children kayaking and fishing. Her and Lance continued to share their passion for home improvements and gardening.
Peggy passed away in the place she loved most, with the man she loved most by her side. She is preceded in death by her brothers Frederick Thomas and William Thomas Jr., her mother Margaret Thomas and father Bill Thomas. She is survived by her husband and three children, as well as by her sisters Jan Shough, Joanne Howell, Mary Cox, Sam Ellis, and Sally Sheehy.
There will be a Celebration of Life in memory of Peggy on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Good Hope Family Fellowship Church at 11:00am, with a Repast to follow. Good Hope Family Fellowship Church is located at 6611 FM 115 Scroggins, TX 75480.
