Michael Dean Evans, of Mount Vernon, passed away at the Trinity Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler, Texas, on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the age of 71.
Michael was born October 18, 1954, in Mount Vernon, Texas to Otis Sr., and Barbara Evans. He was raised in Mount Vernon and attended Mount Vernon High School, where the foundation was laid for a life deeply rooted in family, faith and community.
Michael believed in the value of an honest day’s work. He worked for several years at the Newsome Packing House, before beginning what became a long and dedicated career with Mount Vernon Feed, where he faithfully worked for 35 years. Through the years, Michael became a familiar and dependable presence to those around him. His life reflected quiet strength, commitment and perseverance.
Michael’s life was not measured only by years, but by the work he faithfully performed, the people he cared for and the consistency with which he showed up for his family, church and community.
At the center of Michael’s life was his faith. He was a devoted member of the Denton Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and lifted his voice in praise as a member of the male choir for many years. Michael’s faith was reflected in the way he lived, served, loved his family and treated others.
On January 12, 1974, Michael married the love of his life, Macie Hargraves Evans and together (over 50 years) they built a life filled with love, family and treasured memories while being the proud parents to three wonderful children.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Macie, parents, Otis Sr., and Barbara Evans, six brothers, Otis Jr., Ned, Calvin, Terry, Stevie Joe, Patrick Clay Evans and three sisters, Diana, LaDonna and Tara Evans.
“His early work is complete, but the values he lived by remain a lasting inheritance.”
Michael leave to cherish his memory, one daughter, Tammy (Tyrone) Clayton of Sulphur Springs, Texas, two sons, Marcus (Kim) Evans of Florida, and Mitch Evans of Mount Vernon, Texas; 5 Grandchildren, Teaira and Tamera Clayton of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Arcelia, Julian, and Aliana Evans of Florida; 7 great grandchildren, Breea, Brooklyn, Zhane, Zoey, Zaylee, Iyanna and Ivee – all of Sulphur Springs, Texas; 3 sisters Sheila Evans (Bearlton) of Mount Vernon, Texas, Tammy Rogers (Charles) of Arlington, Texas, Shara Fountain of Plano, Texas; 2 uncles, Johnny Robertson (Ethelyn) of Texarkana, Texas, and Randolph Chandler of Mount Vernon, Texas; 5 sister-in-laws, Retta Evans, Freda Evans, Arlue Williams, Georgia Johnson, Fannie Hargraves, and brother-in-law, Curtis Galloway; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Our Beloved Michael was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, Deacon, and servant of God. The love Michael gave, and the example he set will continue through generations that follow him.
Family and friends will gather to honor Michael at the Denton Baptist Church on Saturday, September 5, 2026, beginning at 9 a.m. for the Visitation. And the Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Michael will be laid to rest at the Denton Cemetery.
We, the family of Michael Dean Evans, wish to express our sincere gratitude to each one of you for the many kind expressions of sympathy that you have so graciously shown in our hours of sorrow. Thank you all very much, and may God richly bless each of you.
