Mary Ruth (Raney) Averitt, age 89, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024, at the place she loved most her home. Born on February 17, 1934, in Saltillo, she was the daughter of Louia and Faye (Tatum) Raney.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Averitt, her sister, Jauquitta Raney and her son, Billy Condrey.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Bolin (Dwight) and Rita Hughes (Jimmy), her sister, Jean Furman, her grandchildren Shannon, Cheree, Richard, Jason, Leslie, B.J., Clay and Cassie, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Ruth or "RuRu" was a southern belle who looked forward to each spring season so she could work in her beloved flower gardens. As much as she loved to garden, she also enjoyed setting a proper table with her beautiful dishes and enjoying a homemade meal with her family and friends. She loved to read, travel and shop. Whatever she set her mind and hands to, she could do and she took great pride in everything she did and had.
Family and friends will gather at the Mount Vernon Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, for the Visitation at 10:00 a.m. and the Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Ruth will be laid to rest at Providence Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Texas.
