Mary Loraine White, of Winnsboro, entered the gates of heaven on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the age of 90. She was born on September 27, 1933, in Owensboro, Kentucky to Rosa Lee (Frantz) and Joseph Edward Pettus.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first beloved husband, Billy Jones, and her second husband, Willie White; as well as siblings, Teresa, Edward, Charles, and James Pettus.
Her survivors include her sons, Jeff Jones and wife, Jill, and Billy Jay Jones; grandchildren, Amberley and partner Nathan Chadbourne, Nicholas Jones, and Amanda Villapando; great grandchildren, Serenity, Jayda, Alexa, Christopher, and Logan; siblings, Jeanette Hicks and husband, Denny, Sally Salsbury and husband, Gene, Carol Rogers and husband, Willis, Kay Pettus, and Jackie LeClear, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Loraine was known as a strong, hard-working woman who did not let adversity hold her back in life. At a young age, she helped her parents in raising her 8 siblings. She left home at 15 and began working as a children's caretaker and restaurant server.
After getting married, Loraine settled in New Mexico, followed soon after by her parents and siblings. Loraine went on to earn her GED and become a successful entrepreneur, owning the K-Bob's Steakhouse in Rockwall, Texas and the Country Steak Barn in Lubbock, Texas with her husband, Billy. Later in life, she volunteered her time as a jail minister, sharing her faith and kind words to offer inmates a glimmer of hope in their challenging situations.
Quilting was one of her favorite hobbies and she artfully designed beautiful blankets that she made for family and friends. She especially loved to give quilts to the new babies in the family.
A talented writer, Loraine published two books of inspirational poetry and a memoir.
Mary will be forever in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her.
Family and friends will gather for a Public Viewing on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. and the Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Memorial Funeral Home Chapel (912 TX Hwy 37 S. Mount Vernon, TX 75457). Services will conclude in the Chapel.
