Judith Diane (Bien) Coffey

December 21, 1959 — April 2, 2025

Mount Vernon, Texas

Judith Diane "Judy" Bien Coffey, 65, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, April 2, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 21, 1959, in Joplin, Missouri. Judy lived a life defined by strength, selflessness, and unwavering faith—a life that touched and inspired everyone who had the privilege to know her.

Judy grew up in Hurst, Texas, and made her mark early during her glory days at LD Bell High School, where she was known for her energy, school spirit, and heart for people. She went on to attend Navarro Junior College, where she was part of the school's first-ever cheerleading squad under the scholarship program. She later became a flight attendant for American Airlines, a role she served in for 14 years—traveling the country and making every passenger feel seen and cared for.

In 1984, Judy married the love of her life, Chris Coffey. Their marriage spanned 41 years and was filled with deep love, laughter, and a bond rooted in faith and friendship. Together, they raised two children: Tucker Coffey, born in 1992, and Annie Coffey, born in 2000. In 1998, the Coffey family moved to Mount Vernon, Texas, where Judy would continue building the legacy she became known for—one of service, strength, and heart.

Judy was a fighter in every sense of the word. She met every challenge in life with grit, grace, and unshakable faith. Whether she was pouring into her family, building a business from the ground up, serving in the community, or walking through her battle with cancer—she showed up, fully and fiercely. She left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered, not just through what she did, but how she lived.

In 2015, Judy opened 3rd Street Nutrition on the square in Mount Pleasant. More than a place to grab a shake or tea, it quickly became a local hub for conversation, laughter, and encouragement—something like the Cheers bar, where "everybody knows your name." People didn't just come in for nutrition products—they came in to feel known, cared for, and welcomed. Judy built her Herbalife business with heart and hustle, and the club reflected everything she believed in: people first, always.

Later, Judy transitioned into education, becoming a beloved teacher and tennis coach in Mount Vernon and Mount Pleasant. To her students, she wasn't just Mrs. Coffey—she was Coach Coffey. And even more meaningfully, many of them referred to her as their second mom. She showed up for them—not just in the classroom or on the court, but in life. She believed in her students, encouraged them, and gave them a steady, supportive presence they could always count on.

Judy's love for people poured out into her community. She brought soccer to life in Franklin County, creating the foundation for what would one day become school athletics programs. She founded the AWANAS program at First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, where she and her family were longtime members. She served actively in the Key Club, Booster Club, and on boards for her children's graduating classes. She led and supported countless community fundraisers, and coached youth soccer and softball for years—always leading with encouragement and joy.

She was also a proud and faithful member of the Famous 4 Book Club, where lifelong friendships were built—though it's still unclear if a single book was ever actually finished. What was guaranteed, though, was laughter, connection, and some of her favorite conversations.

Judy is survived by her husband and best friend, Chris Coffey; her son, Tucker Coffey; her daughter, Annie Coffey; her brothers, Larry Bien and Gary Bien; her sister-in-law, Vicki Waldron; and her mother-in-law, Catherine Coffey. She is also survived by her sister in Christ, Stefanie Collvins—the sister she always wanted but never had in blood, and a faithful friend who stood by her through every season. Judy also leaves behind a beloved group of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family—all of whom she loved deeply and who brought her great joy. She is further survived by former students, teammates, and countless friends—many of whom would tell you their lives are better because Judy Coffey was part of them.

Her legacy is one of unwavering faith, radiant love, fierce loyalty, and quiet strength. Judy fought the good fight. She finished her race with courage and grace. And her impact will echo for generations to come.
