John David Berger, Sr., of Mount Vernon, Texas entered the heavenly gates on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the age of 95. He was born in Normanna, Texas on June 8, 1928, to Edna (Halliburton) and Adam Berger.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Willie Grace (Messer) Berger. They exchanged vows and were married on September 17, 1949, in Kingsville, Texas and were blessed to be together for 69 years.
Survivors include his children, John David Berger, Jr., Joyce Lynn Kirby and husband, Edward, Bobby Dale Berger and wife, Alice; grandchildren, Cristal Evans, Jennifer Jackson, William Kirby and wife, Heather, Jeffrey Kirby and wife, Kaylee, Daynie Berger, Rebecca Mandela and husband, Jeremy, Charity Diaz and husband, Manny, Emily Berger and Kylee Berger; great grandchildren, Ragan Evans, Zhoe Evans, Levi Kirby, Malachi Kirby, Noah John Kirby, Jeremiah Mandela and great-great grandchild, Jay Nipp.
John was a graduate of Beeville ISD and earned an associate degree in Agriculture from A&M Kingsville. He worked for the Humble Oil Company (Exxon) for 17 years before pursuing his childhood dream of owning a dairy farm. For 27 years he fulfilled that dream, every day, working and doing what he loved best.
He will forever be missed by those that knew and loved him.
Family and friends will gather at the MVT Oasis Fellowship Church on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. for the Visitation and the Celebration of his Homegoing will follow at 2:00 p.m. John will be laid to rest, next to his beloved Wille Grace, out at the Purley Cemetery.
