Jimmy Austin Welch

Jimmy Austin Welch, of Mount Vernon, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the age of 87. He was born in Big Spring, Texas on February 9, 1936, to Austin and Juanita Welch.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Welch; son, Jimmy Wayne Welch; and parents.

His survivors include his daughters, Julie McKissick and husband Randy, and Rhonda Howard and husband Tom; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; as well as extended family – daughter, Jann Waters, and husband Brian.

Spending time with his family was important and Jimmy loved barbecuing and being together with them. He could be seen boating and fishing on the lake, enjoying the outdoors. He and his wife, Joyce were once owners of the Pine Acres Catfish restaurant in Perryville, Texas. He and his son, Jimmy Wayne, also were the owners of J&J Drywall, in which Jimmy worked with drywall for 50 years. Working up to the age of 87 years old, making barn doors and shutters, he was a tremendously hard worker.

He will certainly be missed by those that knew and loved him.

Family and friends will gather for the Visitation on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Mount Vernon Memorial Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. The Burial will be held at the Perryville Cemetery in Perryville, Texas.
