Frankie Joe Davidson was born on June 9, 1932, in Hopkins County, Texas to William McKinly Davidson and Rosetta Powell Davidson, both sharecroppers. He grew up in Mt. Vernon, Texas, where he would later meet the love of his life, Mary Jo Pryor. The two were married on March 26, 1955, and spent a beautiful life together, raising their family in Mesquite, Texas, where they lived for 40 years before retiring back to Mt. Vernon.
Before marrying Mary Jo, Frank proudly served in the United States Army from February 24, 1953 to February 11, 1955, achieving the rank of Corporal. During the Korean War, he served as a military police officer.
Following his service, Frank worked as the owner and operator of a catering business for more than 20 years.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life. Frank was deeply involved in jail ministry, served as a deacon, and was a committed member of his church community—faithfully attending Bible studies and encouraging others in their walk with Christ.
Frank also had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel—not only visiting Alaska three times but also exploring internationally. When he wasn't seeing the world, he was known for his love of tinkering and never passed up an opportunity to go fishing.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Jo; his parents; his siblings Arnold, Edward, Ruby Hedgcoth, and Elizabeth Ball; and his son, Duane Davidson.
He is survived by his children: son Thomas Davidson (Michelle) and daughter Michelle Perry (Justin); seven grandchildren: Tad Davidson, Charles Davidson (Kim), Brandon Davidson (Gennie), Brittany Temple (Scott), Ashley Mong (Roy), Travis Perry (Bailey), and Austin Davidson (Shannon); and 14 great-grandchildren: Madison, Collins, Frankie, Patton, William, Eliza, Eleanor, Jude, Sebastian, Violet, Benjamin, Margot, Jack, and Townes.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Saturday, August 9, 2025, beginning at 9:00 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Aguilar Funeral Chapel in Mount Vernon, Texas. Frank will be laid to rest at Tranquil Cemetery in Winfield, Texas, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church Mount Vernon Jail Ministry.
