Tribute Dorothy Faynell Johnson, age 85, of Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully in the mid-morning hours of Monday, April 8, 2019, at her home. Dorothy was born on September 4, 1933 in North Franklin County to the late Ollie and Florine Tillery Clanton. Following graduation from Belton High School, Dorothy proudly joined the United States Navy where she served her country in Washington DC during the Korean Conflict.
Dorothy married Earl E. Johnson on December 15, 1953. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2012.
Dorothy retired from Franklin County where she diligently worked in several positions. Previously to that, she worked for the Franklin County Sheriff's Department and became an Honorary Deputy. She was a faithful member of the Mount Vernon Church of Christ. Through her many travels in life she returned home to Mount Vernon and the land her family lived on for generations. She raised four of her children in Mount Vernon and stayed at her home place until her passing. Dorothy was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who leaves behind a legacy of serving God and people that will live on in the hearts of those she knew and loved.
Dorothy is survived by five children, Woody Johnson, and wife Cathy, of St. Louis, Missouri, Scott Johnson, and wife Cindy, of Bossier City, Louisiana, Betsy McKinney, and husband Timothy, of Sylvia, Kansas, Susan Huizinga, and husband Rob, of Mount Vernon, Texas, and Jennifer Templeton, and husband Brent, of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, and wife Claire, Lindsey Johnson, Leslie Henley, and husband Colton, Matthew Johnson, and wife Kay, Andrew Johnson, Katie Jo Johnson, Jace McKinney, Jared McKinney, and wife Sara, Chelsey Jester, and husband Zac, Cole Huizinga, Clay Huizinga, Ty Templeton, and Brock Templeton; great-grandchildren, Wesley Johnson, Margaret Johnson, Brayden Dennis, Riley Johnson, and Noah Johnson; sisters, Edna Stone Browning, of Arlington, Texas and Mary Lois Jennings Bell, and husband Corky, of Spring Branch, Texas; and by a host of other relatives and very special friends.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by three brothers, G. H. Clanton, Uton Clanton and Roy Clanton, and one sister, Eula Lewis.
Funeral services for Dorothy Faynell Johnson will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 12, 2019 at Cameron Family Funeral Home with Brother Chip Horton officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow at Providence Cemetery with Matthew Johnson, Ty Templeton, Brock Templeton, Jace McKinney, Jared McKinney, Cole Huizinga, Clay Huizinga and Shawn Stone serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M., Friday afternoon, at Cameron Family Funeral Home.
