Billy "Bf" Ingram

November 3, 1928 — March 4, 2019

Tribute Bill "BF" Ingram, age 90, of Mount Vernon, passed away in the early afternoon hours of Monday, March 4, 2019 at his home. Bill was born November 3, 1928 in Mt. Vernon, Texas, to Sam and Lessie Jackson Ingram. He joined the United States Air Force weeks after graduating from Mt. Vernon High School in 1946. Bill served in the latter months of World War II and in the Korean War. While stationed at Andrews AFB in Maryland, Bill met and married the love of his life Mildred Jones in 1949. They met in a crowded diner in Washington D. C. Always the gentleman, he gave her his seat and in less than four months they were married. On April 4th of this year they would have celebrated their 70th anniversary. After retiring from Bell Helicopter in 1972, Bill and Mildred moved their family to the Cypress Community in southern Franklin County where they farmed, raised beef cattle, and operated a custom hay bailing business. He served as Franklin County Precinct 3 Commissioner from 1977-1992. After retiring again, he continued bailing hay for the public and started a dairy operation with his daughter Lisa and son-in-law David. Bill was a member of Cypress Baptist Church where he served as deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Cypress Cemetery Association. In his younger years, Bill raced a 1955 Buick and a 1957 Corvette. Later he enjoyed woodworking, and fishing, but most of all, he loved being with his family. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post #243, Gideons International, and North Texas Woodworkers Association. Bill is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Mildred; son Danny Ingram; daughter Lisa and husband David Lawrence; granddaughter Emily Lawrence; grandsons Sam Lawrence, Ben Lawrence, Ben's wife Cecily, and great-grandson Jenson; sister Nellie Kladdis; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special friend Jimmie (J.J.) and his parents, Ginger and Rodney Forbes.
