Ava Goswick

Tribute Ava Nell Goswick, age 91, of Saltillo, passed Friday evening, April 26, 2019, at her home with her family by her side. Ava was born July 19, 1927, in Hopkins County, Texas to Ernest and Esther Smith Matthews. She married her high school sweetheart, Bobby Goswick. Ava and Bobby met their senior year in high school, graduated in 1945, and then married May 9, 1946. They were married for 72 and were 13 days away from celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary at the time of Ava's passing. Ava worked for Prudential Insurance in Dallas, Texas for several years before starting a family. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. Ava was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Ava was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Noble, Travis, Maurice and Bart Matthews; one older sister, Juanita Matthews Wiler; infant son, Michael Keith; and son-in-law, Jimmy D. Bassham. Survivors include her husband, Bobby; daughter, Debra Bassham; two nieces and two nephews. Graveside services for Ava Nell Goswick will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 29, 2019 at Old Saltillo Cemetery with Andy Dalrymple officiating. A special thanks to the doctors and their staff; home health care nurses and therapists; and hospice nurses and staff whose loving care made it possible for Mother to be home with her family the last two years of her life.
